About Deep Space Outpost
Deep Space Outpost is a tile-by-tile space station builder centred on resource scarcity and production chains, launching on PC July 14, 2026. You start with a small mining startup, a handful of worker droids, and the need to turn asteroids and salvage into a functioning operation, balancing power generation, oxygen, fuel and the hiring of human staff against the constant pressure of keeping everyone fed and the station from failing.
The core loop is extraction and transformation: mine asteroids for raw ore, refine it into metals and consumables, manage the power grid through solar storms and equipment failures, and feed that steady output back into expansion. You build outward one room at a time, deciding whether to add production modules, life support, storage or weapons, and each choice locks you into a production dependency. Mine ore without a refinery and you have rocks; build a refinery without power and it sits idle. The game's tension comes from that cascade of interconnected systems rather than combat or time pressure, and whether you can keep that machinery running while asteroid mining, hiring new crew and expanding fast enough to meet mission targets.
Two modes, one philosophy
The release date for Deep Space Outpost includes both a sandbox mode for open-ended building and eight scenarios with set objectives and high-score leaderboards, plus a station blueprint editor tied to Steam Workshop, so players can share optimised layouts. That structure appeals to two players at once: the systems tinkerer who wants to solve production puzzles without win conditions, and the goal-chaser who wants the pressure of specific targets and the feedback of a score.
The biggest question is whether the feedback loops feel tight enough to sustain interest across hours of base management. Mining, refining and expansion are the full menu; if those three pillars do not generate enough meaningful decisions about what to build and why, the game risks becoming busywork. The quality of the station blueprint editor and community sharing will also shape replayability; a broken or clunky creation tool would undercut a core feature.
Pick this up if you enjoyed the slow-burn satisfaction of Factorio-style production chains or the long-term planning of Oxygen Not Included, but want them set in space with simpler visuals and a smaller scope. Skip it if base management without combat or narrative feels hollow to you.
